Panathenaic stadium

Today we slept in first after our exhausting day yesterday, and then we only had 1 thing planned to do today: to go to the Panathenaic stadium aka the original Olympic stadium!
This is where the Olympic games first started in 1896!
It's now a reconstruction of the stadium but it's completely build in marble which makes is so pretty (but also way hotter as the sun reflects on it like crazy🌞🌞🌞)
Now the stadium is used to light the Olympic torch before it goes to the host land.
Other than that, they're using the stadium for games and concerts.
They were setting up for a show today while we were there.
But despite the hot weather to walk around, it was very impressive to see how it was build in 144 BC by Herod Atticus!
And we went all the way to the top to stand right underneath the Olympic rings!
(Try to find me on the pictures😜)
We also went into the museum where we saw the poster of the 1920 Games that were held in Antwerp Belgium!!! So of course I bought the poster in the shop as it's a very rare thing to buy and we are of course very proud that Belgium has been the host of the Olympic Games exactly 125 ago!!!
After the stadium we went to the Syntagma square to the Parliament building to watch the change of the guards but we were just too late to see it, so instead we went across the street to the rooftop bar at the Great Britain hotel to have a glass of wine instead😉
We will go back to go see the guards, probably on Friday, and then we're going to go to a restaurant my colleague recommended which is only 5 mins from there.
While going back to the hotel we stopped at Hondos Center across our square where I did a lot of shopping!
I have to come to Greece to find the perfect winter sweater and matching longsleeved shirt, go figure🙄
Tomorrow's gonna be a very busy, early and long day so be sure to come back😉
YASSAS!!!
xoxo
